Midea VRF selected for major Brighton office refurbishment

Midea VRF technology has been selected to provide cooling and heating for Sovereign Brighton, a major 77,890 sq ft workspace refurbishment in the heart of the city.

The development provides serviced office accommodation across four main floors, alongside premium facilities including a private roof terrace, business lounge, gymnasium and auditorium, all designed to elevate the everyday working experience. Sovereign Brighton also offers the largest refurbished floor plate in the city.

As part of the tender process, AC South were asked to explore alternative HVAC manufacturers to undertake value engineering. Midea was approached to design an alternative solution. Working closely with the project teams at AC South, Midea developed a system that delivered considerable cost savings while maintaining the quality and specification required for the development.

The resulting 1,422 kW Midea VRF solution incorporates 38 V6R Heat Recovery VRF units, with a combination of ducted, HRV (heat recovery ventilation) and wall-mounted indoor units delivering multi-zone cooling and heating, supported by centralised control. The system provides the flexibility required across the building’s varied spaces, allowing temperatures in individual areas to be effectively managed to meet the needs of more than 800 occupants.

Sustainability is central to the wider refurbishment, with Sovereign Brighton operating as a 100% electric building powered by renewable energy sources and targeting BREEAM Excellent, WELL Gold and WiredScore Gold ratings. The project demonstrates how Midea VRF technology, combined with the expertise of Mi Pro Partner AC South, can deliver a flexible and cost-effective HVAC solution as part of a major commercial refurbishment. As a Mi Pro Partner, AC South can also offer an extended warranty of up to 10 years, supported by ongoing annual servicing and maintenance, providing long-term support beyond the initial installation.
