Midea VRF at IKEA’s Flagship Store

IKEA’s first full size London store in over 13 years, IKEA Greenwich, stands proudly as the UK’s most sustainable retail space, winning the highest certification for sustainable design and construction since its opening. City Air Conditioning played a key role in the development of the store, which formed part of a £100 million investment. The store benefits from an energy efficient Midea HVAC solution that supports the stores cutting edge sustainable design.

In large scale stores, Midea’s VRF systems deliver high-performance cooling and heating capable of supporting heavily trafficked retail environments. City Air Conditioning, installs and maintains these systems and through their status as a Midea Mi Pro Partner, they are able to provide IKEA with an extended 10 year warranty, offering long-term reliability and reduced operational risk.

Spanning an impressive 344,445 sq. ft. City Air Conditioning installed a series of Midea VRF V8 systems which comprised four 56kW and four 67kW units, as part of the first phase of the stores renovation. Chosen for their flexibility and adaptable controls, the system was later modified to include full heating functionality with minimal disruption. Midea’s versatile system controls, allowed for a seamless integration with the existing BMS, enabling straightforward and centralised management.

Through close collaboration, City Air Conditioning and Midea delivered a comprehensive solution that ensures a comfortable environment while meeting the highest standards of sustainable construction. IKEA’s flagship London store enjoys a future-proof HVAC system and boasts an inviting, eco-friendly shopping experience for visitors.
